7 Relaxing Ways To Beat The Stress Before Job Interview

October 29, 2019/in Current Apprentices or Trainees, Current Hosts, Ex Apprentices or Trainees, Ex Hosts, Potential Apprentices or Trainees /by App Qld Team

Everyone will encounter the pre-interview jitters at some point during their professional career. It’s normal to feel nervous since it may be your dream job or a great opportunity, but don’t let stress get the best of you! The good news is there are ways to reduce stress so you can focus on your interview and walk in there with the confidence needed to win over your interviewer.

Get A Relaxing Massage

Unwind and relax before your interview courtesy of a classic massage. Physical tension isn’t great for the body, or mind, it can affect your posture amongst other things. You want to sit up straight and emit self-confidence in your interview so visit a reputable masseuse beforehand.

There are a variety of massages that you can select but some examples like a deep tissue massage or a Swedish massage can help with stress and anxiety. If it’s your first time then do some research, or get some recommendations about local salons or practices that offer the best possible services.

Indulge In Some Humour

Watching a funny movie will take your mind off your pending interview. Humour is a great way to de-stress and distract yourself from any feelings of nervousness. Make a plan to go to the cinema the evening before your interview, leaving enough time to get plenty of sleep. Alternatively, watch your favourite movie at home with a healthy meal.

Go On A Run

Running has long been a favourite fitness regime for many. It’s good for keeping stress at bay since it allows you to zone out. Try doing it outdoors instead of on the treadmill and feel the difference.

If running isn’t your preference than going on a long walk will also have the same effect. Pop in your earphones, slip on your comfy shoes and you’re ready. Somewhere scenic is a great option since you’ll be too busy taking in the view to worry about your interview. It’s also the ideal time to sit and take a break so you can reflect, or go through any notes relating to the role you’ve applied for.

Yoga Will Help You Unwind

One of the best points about yoga is how it’s not only good for the body but it’s great for the mind too. It focuses on movements, breathing, and control – all of which are necessary to provide focus and clarity. You will walk out of the session feeling relaxed and confident, which is what you need to be ready for your interview.

Even if you can’t make it to a class on the day of your interview, there are plenty of videos you can find to practice yourself at home, or in the gym. So there’s no excuse not to give it a go.

Load Up With Good Food

Ensure you eat properly before any interview. Skipping breakfast or lunch isn’t going to help with your nerves. Fill up on a good portion of nutritional foods that will provide you with energy throughout the day. There is nothing worse than turning up to your interview hungry and having to contain your rumbling stomach throughout.

An empty stomach won’t help with your nerves or focus. Below are some recommended meals that will boost your energy and make you feel good.

Breakfast

-Smoked salmon, spinach and egg muffins

-Porridge with berries

-Peanut butter and bananas on toast

Lunch

-Salmon and brown rice salad

-Wholewheat pasta with vegetables

-Lentil and chickpea soup

Look And Feel Your Best

Prepare your interview outfit the night before, try on some different looks and select an option that makes you feel confident. The key is looking professional but feeling comfortable. Treat yourself to a visit to the hairdressers or nail salon to give yourself a boost. Looking like the best version of yourself will help you to exude confidence, which in turn will calm your nerves.

Take A Warm Bath

Wake up early and take a dip in the tub the morning of your interview. Try some soothing Epsom salts to relax your muscles or some aromatic candles for a calming effect. Put on your favourite playlist or some atmospheric background music to complete the mood.

This type of quality time with yourself will help you to refocus and start your day off in a relaxed way. Leaving yourself with plenty of time to get ready and make it to your interview.

The key to confidence before an interview is all in the preparation. Make sure you get plenty of rest, eat properly and try the methods above to relax, mentally and physically. When you look and feel good you will walk into the interview room ready to shine.
